Wiring of a wired CCTV system

Hi Guys,
I wonder if anyone could help me out my daughter is having neigbour troubles and her and her husband have invested in a wired cctv system with a dvd recorder question is this, in her lounge (the house is 3 years old ) there is a box on the wall near to where her tv and sky box is, in this box is a number of wires (about 4 or 5 ) they are all coax cable and i beleive were installed with a view to having the sky pushed around to different bedrooms etc, all the tails of the coax are up in the loft, This is the question, is it possible to connect the cables from the camera to coax cable and then come out in the lounge into the dvd recorder which would be right near the television this would negate wires running all over walls on the outside of the house

You could, what about the power though they will require running from somewhere

Thanks Lamchamps, yes they appear to have everything in the box, and there are 4 cameras and they have a dvd recorder as well each camera is supplied with 20 mtrs of cable, but the coax cable seemed like a good route to go, they all come out in a little box just near the tv just below the unit with all their sky boxes etc clearly we would have to look at suitable connectors for the coax etc

The existing co-ax cables could possibly be used as the latest Hikvision Turbo 4 models are capable of PoC (power over co-ax) taking the power from the DVR to the camera. But as you have already purchased a system you will need to route cables from the DVR to the cameras.
On a security point of view, having the CCTV DVR next to the TV isn’t a good idea, if your daughter was unfortunate enough to be a victim of a burglary, electrical items are often a target, they could unwittingly take all your CCTV evidence thinking it’s a satellite receiver/ recorder.
