Last month I moved in to a new house, brand new floor, wiring, kitchen, ceiling etc. essentially everything was replaced. Problem is, there is no master socket installed, but there is a cable coming in along the wall from the outside, that looks like phone/Ethernet cable

I have been trying to get the internet provider (TalkTalk) to come in and connect the broadband, however for whatever reason their engineers don't show up :(

After fourth call to their customer service, this time they told me that they need to book open reach to install master socket and it will probably take another 10 days and will cost me £140 to get it installed.

As this is rented property I will just pass the fee to landlord, but in the mean time I don't want to wait another 10 days, as been already 5 weeks and maybe I could install it myself temporarily.

Problem is, the wiring looks completed different from what I could find on the internet and after trying to plug in a few different combination I'm a bit lost.

I attached a photo of the available cables.

There is another cable available on the side, but from what I understand is suppose link other Ethernet boxes in the house (there is like 5 of them)

That cable stripped back is not cat5 or cw1308 Bt cable as the colours are wrong and looks to be stranded

2 blue wires and 2 green wires one grey wire?? that is not telephone wiring and i suspect its alarm wiring... if you have no master socket i suspect the line has never been fitted by the developers... so why should you pay £140 for something thats never worked? get back on to talk talk and say you wish to make a complaint about the way you have been treated and they will try to fob you off but be very very adamant with them and say you are going to ofcom

Decided to open up the rest of Ethernet sockets, the one in the loft looks something similar and seems to go through second bedroom (black cable intact),but not sure if it's connected.

The picture of the cable coming in to the property leads to the socket in master bedroom (original picture attached above), now the confusing part is the other socket in the same room, that just have one cable (picture with Ethernet cover still hanging)?

I will try contact Talktalk again on Monday, but I don't really have much hope anymore.

Zoomed out version off the original picture.

So I'm guessing the cable going downwards is the same cabled that goes to socket on the other side of the room (with Ethernet cover hanging)
