I have a washing machine that makes a noise which gets worse the faster it spins.

Am going to get a torch to check to see anything has fallen through the drum and is rubbing and if necessary I may take off the door seal to get a closer look around the outside of the drum.

Just thought I'd ask if there's any other possibilities of what it could be?

Bearings etc?

Thanks!!!

Well, I've had it over 5 years and I think it was a couple of years old when I got it.
Never had bearings go on a washing machine before.

Fair enough folks and thanks. Sounds like that's the problem. Sent a you tube video of bearings gone to my tenants and they said it's the same noise. Looks like a new machine then.
Been looking around at cheap replacements. Beko seem to come out good value. Do you know if they're reliable?
Previous one was an Indeset but the bloody paddles kept braking off, so won't buy one of those.

My Beko is ok, well I don't use it, but I don't hear complaints.

Thanks for all your help folks!!
Found some videos on You Tube of a washing machine with bearings that had gone and found the noise was the same. Also, found that bearing changes can be a bit of a nightmare with sealed drum.
As it was at a tenants house, I didn't have the luxury of time either, so opted for a replacement machine in the end.
Got a Hotpoint from Currys for £224

We always used to have Hotpoints but I seemed to forever be replacing the drum bearings and motor bushes (would wash but wouldn’t spin). Bought a Miele a few years ago in a sale, with cashback and a 10 year guarantee. Been faultless so far. Mind you, the year before that I bought a Beko for washing the work overalls and oily rags - that’s been okay too and that lives out in the yard with a tarp over it!

£224 is a good price for a new machine though and like most things nowdays, would have probably cost you near to that to get your old one repaired. Can anyone remember the last time they had a washing machine, cooker, fridge or TV repaired? Me neither - if you can’t do a simple fix yourself, it’s just as cheap to replace 'em! Oh, I repaired my Saniflo this year for just over a fiver instead of a £350 replacement but it was a **** job to do. :D

I took our last washing machine to bits to replace the drum bearings, you couldn't physically remove them without breaking the housing (sealed drum) so bit the bullet and bought a new one..
