want to put real floor down over existing chipboard..

I have seen a great deal on some reclaimed wood,,

can I stick it down like an old parquet floor? I could probably nail to some of the joists - but will be a bit of a guess where they are.

anyone?

How can you be sure that the joists don't have notches for pipes or cables?

I would advise against just gluing them. They may start to warp upwards. Glued parquet floors normally have short and narrow blocks that are more stable and less likely to distort.

If you have a decent table saw, you could cut the reclaimed wood in to small uniform staves.

Did not say he had parquet , just mentioned it as a reference to fixing method, we don’t know what OP means by real floor.

I only mentioned parquet because it is one of the only non T&G floors that can be laid using glue only.

The OP mentions nailing into joists, so i assume that they are talking about reclaimed planks

hi - yes - looking at reclaimed planks - this place has a 22 mm chip floor - and some dodgy plumbing. so want a floor that could be lifted up if needed. using engineered wood would have to go from one side of room to another?

I can see where some of the joists are - but they defo have some joints in - where they have been laid sisde my side at the overlap.. not confident will hit the joists with nails 100% -

also not planning to use T+G - will need to fill the gap between joists - a bit like a boat deck or parquet floor?
