Electric heating

Hi guys.....just moved to a property with no mains gas, currently it has a huge g&c electric boiler system that looks like a half & half fridge freezer, it heats radiators in 3 bedrooms,kitchen,and bathroom, it's got a huge lounge & hallway which have panel heaters around 10inches high fixed on the wall that go to the floor one is 8m long & the other is 9m long it as a multi burner in the lounge also, never seen this type of boile set up before nor friends and family.....question is do I purchase a new boiler to suit this system or complete rip out and install a more practical/affordable system I.e oil heating & electric water heating....p.s currently the boiler is knackered.....thanks

Do away with it and have oil or LPG fired instead - electric is by far the most expensive method of heating your home. You can use your new boiler to heat your water too, you don't need to use electric for that

Then as what Muggles said.... Put LPG or Oil in.

Very unlikely renewables will be worthwhile as a primary source.

How far are you from the gas main? Gas CH is likely to add most value to the property and that may cover the cost of bringin in gas (and there may be some grants available for gas infill connections)

Thanks guys....so oil combi then ?? If so can all the old rad pipes stop there or does it mean taking floor boards up to replace new rad pipe work...

Preferably not a combi if you're going for oil - better off with a heat only boiler and separate cylinder. You wouldn't normally need to replace all your pipework, but you do need to get the main flow & returns back to the new boiler so if the positioning is significantly different there will be some additional pipework to do

You have a GEC Nightstor, there is a guy near Stoke on Trent that repairs or can remove for you.

If you're looking to get rid of your GEC Nightstor boiler could I get it off you? It doesn't matter if it's knackered. I'm doing a project and have been trying to get hold of one.
