i have had a new oil heating system installated it’s a sealed system (I think). Is there a way to measure how much inhibitor and cleaner has been installed and whether there is enough. I’ve got a large system 21 rads. How much inhibitor and cleaner should be used on commissioning? The technician has completed cd10 and 11 but doesn’t say what quantity he has used.

The cleanser should be completely flushed out and removed, then inhibitor is added, lots of different manufacturers of inhibitor so need to know which was used to tell you how to test the water

As above, there should be no cleaner in your system whatsoever. Flush it out thoroughly, treat with Adey MC1, and use aan Adey water test kit to check the levels and system cleanliness

Yes, it's easy to use - you put a sample of mains water from your kitchen tap into one container, a sample of your system water into the other container, and post them to Fernox for analysis.

I’m sure it would be easier to drain the system and add two bottles of inhibitor. That will be plenty for 21 rads. Then you will know for sure.

you dont know the size of the radiators or the volume of the pipe work so how can you possibly advise this ? OP you can actually put too much inhibitor in and as already advised cleanser should not be left in a system .

That’s why I said drain the system first.
That will flush out the cleaner. One bottle of inhibitor does approx 10 rads. He said he had 21 rads. No need to make this simple job harder than it needs to be.

As a guide, you could take a sample of the water, eg from a rad bleed point, about 1/2 a jamjar full. Put in some bright wire nails. If there's a problem they will go rusty in a couple of weeks. You could do the same with a sample of mains water as a control.
