Hi all, I've just purchased a used Everest porch upvc door. Fitting all went ok. My problem is when I shut the door I have to push the handle up and use the key to lock it every time I leave the house. I want it so when the door closes it carnt be opened without the key from the outside. Will I need to change the locking mechanism???

Many thanks
Jim.

Depends what type of mechanism it has got. May be just a case of changing the solid spindle to a split one.

Personally I wouldn't bother, as it's just a quick and easy way to lock yourself out of your own house on a regular basis.

As above.

Plus the lever pad setup is only locked on the latch. A good bump or slipping in any thing slim will unlock it.

Cheers for the reply lads, it’s a Yale locking system fitted and it looks as if will take the split handle setup. The handles are broken so I will be buying a pair of the split ones an we’ll see. I’ll post tomorrow with the outcome.

Make sure you get your measurements mm perfect https://www.handlestore.com/blog/how-to-measure-upvc-door-handles/
Dont forget for lever pad the internal and external are different sizes.

There was a great video going around on Facebook about how easy it is to break into a lever/pad handle setup with just a butter knife.
Thats why I dislike them as it makes you lazy about locking the door fully. Someone could break in in seconds and you wouldn't even hear them

Well I've gone for the split spidle handles as this will achieve what I'm after. The only reason I want it like this is when I'm in or at my van going in and out with the incorrect spanner for the third time. But at night and if I am away from the house I shall lock it with the bolts over. The other thing I wanted to ask is how easy Is it to fit a night latch??

Cheers
Jim.
