Had a call from a mate, his fridge turns his TV off every time it starts and stops, sounds like some sort of RF interference to me, looking online some folk recommend ferrite rings around the flexes to both appliances, but if it is airborne interference will this work?

If it is going into standby then most likely is a transient voltage spike on the mains as the fridge motor starts and stops.

Are they plugged into the same ring final ciruit. ?

As a slight aside, back in the olden days my mum used to empty fruit machines (legally as a job) and part of her kit was a manually operated change counter, like a centrifuge with a mechanical counter, one of the pubs she visited had a new remote controlled TV and when she cranked up the counter it used to change channels randomly

+1 winston1. You could also try a surge protector on the TV socket for a temporary fix but I'd be getting the fridge fixed, especially after that tower block fire..
