hi all,
i have just bought an elmdene 1amp psu for my alarm system and i was wanting to connect a sound bomb to it and maybe a lynteck horn siren, now i know i will need some kind of relay or something but i was wondering if anyone here could advise me on what to get to make this work.

thanks in advance

What is your current alarm control panel ?
Do already have a bell box fitted and what make ?
Is it a SB1 or SB2 sound bomb.

As handymanjo says, what is current draw of the main alarm panel in standby and in alarm?,You may not need the psu, often the current consumption of the devices in reality is very different to what they claim on paper, eg, a texecom oddysey claims to draw 523ma on sab in full alarm, when in reality it only draws 400ma. if you have a multimeter then measure the current in alarm, I will bet its lower than you think, it very often is.

The multi-meter may give a false reading of current drawn. They are calibrated for a steady DC current. When the current being measured is varying rapidly then the meter may not give an accurate indication of the average current.

the current panel is an ancient scantronic 9800, i just wanted to add a few more devices in the future to it which is why i got the psu as it was also a good price.
the sound bomb is the twin piezo SB1 i think there is already one of them on the system as well as the bell box and 7 pir's, 2 glass break detectors, 2 shocks and 2 keypads but i am also wanting to add the sheds to the system as there has been a lot of burglaries nearby recently.

i realise if i just connect the positive from say a horn siren or sound bomb to the psu and the negative to the panel it might not work as it needs to complete a circuit. and i have not done a current draw test on the system

many thanks for the replies

Common the negative from panel to psu
Do not connect positive from panel to psu
Connect postives of sounders together on psu
Connect switch negative(Bell trigger to relay coil
Connect positive of psu to relay coil
Connect negative from psu to common on relay
Connect sounder negatives to n/o on relay
When alarm triggers relay will be switched from bell trigger for programmed bell time

thanks for the reply,
i assume commoning the negative from the panel to the psu is the negative from the aux supply to the detectors to the neg output of the psu?
and what relay is the correct type for this to work?

Yes aux negative will be fine, Elmdene MPR001 relay is what you need, you can buy them on ebay for £6.90.

hi all apologies for the late reply, thanks for telling me about the relay i will order myself one next week and let you know how it goes.

i really appreciate your help thanks again
