Hey all, I'm getting a kitchen worktop fitted. The carpenter recommends a straight cut with circular saw as the edges are square not rounded, though they seem to have a slight edge bevel so not 100% flush. I always thought a routed miter cut using a jig looks better though is this only needed for round edge worktops? What is the general preference for joints on this type of worktop? I'm going with this zinc black from B&Q https://www.diy.com/departments/kit...k/DIY1438477.cat?icamp=Laminate_SE_Zinc_Black

If he's a skilled carpenter with a sharp saw a straight cut should be fine on a truly square edged worktop (with allowances for the wall if it is out of square) but I don't see that will work with even a slight bevel unless you're prepared to put up with an unsightly groove which will be left on uncut long edge.

Cheers

Only ever seen square cut use on timber tops, unless sharp corners any rounded edge will leave a groove to fill with debri.

He may have in mind finishing off with one of these which used to be very common before the introduction of routers and post formed joints:

I have found that a chippie or kitchen fitter will offer to do a router based joint for a little extra to cover the cost of hiring the tool or buying the bit.

Cheers all. Yeah I think the mitred joint is best as went to b&q and saw same worktop with the hockey stick joint and it looks good. Also the slight bevel on the edge will leave a slight groove as you said. No metal strip for me as they look awful imo lol
