New to Ricochet -- devices not learning

Just installed 32 zone wireless expander on my wired Premier Elite 28.

FW upgraded to v4 . All ok.

I am now trying to connect wireless PIR XT-W, but it cant seem to find it.
This is what I am doing:

1: I have left the expander panel open (Insrtuctions have to keep tamper panel open - hope this is what it means?)
2. Engineer mode/Learn Ricothet - YES
3. Learn Device 09 xxxxx. YES
4. Message says: POWER UP DEVICE! -
5. I power up the PIR by inserting battery

But it just times out after 20 seconds.

Some things I may have done wrong:

I havent changed any settings on panel since installing the expander, I just wired up.
I am not pressing any buttons on PIR, I am just inserting battery
I havent done anything on epander to put it into learning mode.
I just pressed YES when keypad asked me to confirm devices following install of expander. This was followed by Learn device coming up.
Any help much appreciated.

Just installed ricochet monitor and this is showing up as a 16xp-w?
Is this because I have a premier elite 24 so only 16 zones available?

Ok, thanks to other posts i discovered the button in PIR - that did the trick.

Will I need to remove the cover every time I add a device?

I put the ricochet PIR on Zone 9. Seemed fine and is showing up on Ricochet Monitor. I closed all up and fitted the PIR to end position on wall. I tried to arm alarm and it is now giving me an error of "Zone 009 tamper"?

Under Ricochet Monitor it is coming up as Front Tamper.

Was loose screw. All working now. Cheers
