How to cut cornice without chewing up the edges?

Hi,

I'm trying to fit a new cornice in my kitchen. I'm using a mini chop saw (cuts up to 150mm) that I got from B&Q but the edges are looking like this...

...how can I prevent this? ...am I cutting from the wrong side? ...do I need a finer disc?

Looks like you need a sharper blade, preferably with a lot more teeth. The other thing is that when you have completed the cut hold the saw head in the down position, switch it off and let it run down to a stop before raising it. Doing the cut and raising the head with the blade still spinning can also sometimes cause spelching

Thats what I thought -it looks like the plastic face was against the fence so there is no chip breaker and the plastic is getting caught.

also what blade have you got needs too be 40 plus teeth
as above i still use my old nobex for cornice and pelmit

oh and nothing better than white gloss for a novice
