I stand by my original comment.
How did you cut the pipe? Did you use a hacksaw? If so you need to file the flaired edges. I can’t think of any other reasons why they don’t fit other than they are used olives and have already been tightened onto pipework before.
Reading your original post I was concerned with something you said. You say run from a loft tank? This could be a typo but I’m assuming you meant the pipe running to your tank which would be mains cold water and would be best to feed your outside tap. I wouldn’t recommend feeding your outside tap with tank fed water.
I honestly never thought about that. Good call.
