Remote CCTV - web access

Can anyone recommend a simple CCTV camera capable of (assuming it's possible!)

Remote access via web (either tablet or desktop)
Standalone
Wi-fi connection to router
Outdoor installation
If possible, pan and tilt from remote access
Night vision capable
Secure

Sounds like you want one camera to do everything
Budget camera with ptz £ 200 approx

If price isn’t a problem scratch the WiFi part and get a proper wired decent system.
 
Thanks for the info -I'll take a look at the suggestions - wired connection may prove the stumbling block.
 
I’m a big fan of the Foscam IP cameras which come with inbuilt dns server & web app so you can view them via internet straight out of the box

Only thing with these is, to get the full benefit of recordings going back a few days/weeks etc you either have to subscribe to their cloud storage solution or hook them up to a computer which effectively means a bit more expense and a bit of PC knowledge

It’s possible to do with a reasonably cheap, mid range computer bought off eBay. Setup ive got is 1 front, 1 back and 1 internal camera all being recorded to the 1 computer, this keeps 2 weeks of recordings for all 3 cameras then overwrites. The computer itself added an extra £70 to the overall cost, which wasn’t disastrous

Most foscam cameras are wired or WiFi capable. Happy to answer specifics if you want any more info (I work in IT which is why I went down this route wi H cameras so I’m reasonably IT literate :)
 
You can buy an NVR for less ....no issues in power cut with having to have a ups ...it will reboot ....plus most pc hard drives are not designed for 24/7 operation
 
Genuine question since I have no experience with them, but can you access an NVR system remotely or via a phone app?

Tbh main reason I took the route I took is because it’s what i know!

Yes very easily the App Store has hundreds if not thousand of apps dedicated to this.

Also I agree with the above about the 24/7 you need a special hard drive designed for that usage, most PC hard drives are not.

If you didn’t want an NVR a NAS drive would be a better option than a PC

On paper, yes, but in reality most hard drives will run 24/7 for a few years. If you really want to be safe you can use 2 (or more) drives in a RAID and use lower speed drives. You can get hard drives specifically intended for NAS or security systems but the main difference between these & stadard hard drives are that they spin at slower speeds so any 5400rpm drive over a 7200rpm is a safer bet

For the cost and pros vs cons of an NVR with a surveillance hard drive vs a pc with not it wasn’t a hard choice to go with the NVR. As also pointed out an NVR will auto recover from power cuts or being turned off a pc won’t unless you want to back up with a UPS. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to use a PC for CCTV recording unless they had no other option.
