Soda Blasting?.

Hello all, been looking a media blasting (possibly in my back garden with tarp or tent up).

Seems Bicarbonate of Soda is the best fit for my use but how good is it at getting paint off?.

I plan to strip the majority of my rear beam, engine cross members etc with a stiff wire cup in the grinder but it won't get into the nooks and crannies, will bicarb be man enough to take the paint off?.

Any input appreciated.

It seems to work for the team on Overhauling ! You're going to need a massive compressor to do this and aren't there environmental concerns? Will your neighbours complain?

I think wet blasting with a glass media is best for you, Keith - soda blasting being a bit on the weak side. I had my dumper wheels done by a local guy and they were perfect for painting.

Thing with Bicarbonate is it just washes away (barring the paint), I already have a compressor and gun.

Glass or sand blasting I'd farm it out as it would be a right mess.

If it won't take paint off reliably though it's a none starter.

You need a large compressor and water trap
I tried it myself with a small compressor and it was too slow
Someone I know had a guy dry ice blast some parquet and he used a classic towed compressor that you'd use for digging up roads

I would stil wear a mask etc even though it is biodegradable

I had mine shot blasted locally, he charged about £80 for the wishbones, roll bar, front subframe and rear beam.

They came up like new, you could read the part numbers. Then I painted them with POR15.

With your previous, I googled POR15, and expected it to be an acronym for filth!

Just an update, I've gone for a Sealey Needle descaler. Have some bits to do on my Mitsubishi GTO as well and need to do them in situ.

I’ve had my teeth soda blasted at my dentist once. Seriously, soda blast with lemon added.

Have fun with the descaler.....my own compressor (14cfm, 100 ltr) struggles to keep up with my Clarke tool and gets very hot - so I don't like to use it too much.

Will see how it goes, I've got a big tanked compressor, just ordered a new pressure switch assy in preperation for the weekend.

Need to do a couple of shock absorbers and wishbones to start with.

Soda Blasting?.
