Hi

I'm doing a feature wall for my son's bedroom - no chimney breast and no large pattern. Its just brick effect wallpaper.

I've worked out that it's five and a half widths/drops of wallpaper.

Where do I start my papering? Also, I seem to remember my dad telling me that I paper away from the light (window) but when I google it, I can't find anything on this. Sadly, I can't ask my dad what he meant :(

Another question, I will be using wallpaper paste for my size - do I make up the solution with double the amount of water compared to the normal mix for papering?

Many thanks
Georgie

Find the most unobtrusive corner - say a corner next to an entrance door - and paste whole sheets up to the corner.

Then do likewise with the other corners

You can always paste a second sheet at a corner if too small a gap is left.

Blup

Traditionally you should start from the window end.

Position your plumbline so that the paper will go round the internal corner by an inch or so.

Once this first piece of paper is hung, trim that excess paper off.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure that's the way my dad told me. Thank you.

And wallpaper size - is it twice as much water than normal mix?

I always use full fat paste on both the plaster and paper. I paste (roll) enough of the wall to ensure that it will still be wet when I hang the (hopefully wet) paper.

Other than that, follow the advice above, and that given by your father (sorry for your loss).

Good luck.

Georgie, don't forget if you make a pigs ear of it, your father will be looking down laughing saying 'you never did listen'

I don't think I did too bad! I'd give myself an 8.5 out of 10 lol. My son is away for a few days so I'm doing a little make-over.

Tomorrow I will be using furniture paint on his chest of drawers and wardrobe (it's just second hand furniture for the time being), buying a new light fitting from Next, a new bed set, a rug and then some pics on his walls. Fingers crossed he will like it.

Lovely job, well done, perfectly plumb and the paper looks quality.

Thank you. I used my dad's tools. I expected to find a plumb line in his bag but it wasn't there. I used a spirit level and it seems to have done the same job :)
