Bit horrible outside at the moment so haven't made much progress, though my windows and doors have arrived. here's vid 5 however:

Windows and doors are in. I'll do a proper update as soon as I've finished the foam insulation around them and sealed inside and out. So glad the light is back in the evenings so I can set move forward more quickly now.

Hey Ali,
Have been watching your videos on youtube and has really inspired me to get on with our Garden Room. Am going for 16' x 10' (having switched to imperial. Have been clearing the site in the sunshine and doing design / budgeting in the rain. Am just down the road from you in Kingston. Was wondering where you sourced your doors and windows?
Been looking on ebay for some aluminium bi-folds but may reduce cost and go down the straight forward patio door route.
Are you water tight yet?
Cheers
Danny

Hi Danny,

That’s great. Sounds like a solid plan, I was going’s to do some work on it tonight but the rain has changed my mind!

Doors and windows came from Modernuvpcwindows. I think they’re really excellent and it’s unbelievable how ‘cheap’ they are compared with the quotes you get in London and it’s not too hard to install either. Don’t know about aluminium-too pricey for me!

It’s semi watertight and has been since end of October but the tyvek is still on with no cladding but as you might have seen with the last vid, the overhang really helps keep the rain off.

I’m in Ealing if you ever fancied coming to take a look.

Would strongly recommend Bi-folds for a garden room - the bigger the better - however new costs are quite £££££ , you may be able to pick up a decent second hand set on the likes of gumtree or ebay - there's a chap in Watford who regularly sells second hand bifold kits...

I would have got some from this chap if he wasn't 200 miles away!

I got these 2nd hand ....

Alistair,
Did look at their website but always suspect the quality when buying online, good to have a recommendation.
Good that your timber is staying dry.
Might take you upon that offer once have got a bit further myself :)
Looking at the forecast might be a low progress weekend...

Jonathan,
Thanks for the link. Will keep my eye out for ones that fit. Like the look of yours, think the wooden frames really suit the garden look :)

Cheers chaps

Danny

Me too Danny, Dunster House have awful reviews but was impressed by what I'd read about MUVPCW so went ahead and wasn't disappointed.

haha Jonathan, you and your Ebay deals, that anthracite one on there at the moment looks good and I'd agree that bi-folds are nice, I just wanted more wall space and less of a summer room feel. Nice pic-noggins make handy shelves don't they! You should really do your own thread, such a good build.

Next video will be on the windows and doors and the tyvek membrane. Here's a few pics in the meantime:

I've also insulated between the joists:

Varnished the floor (though I think I'll put laminate over it actually):

And done the stud work for the showroom (made it smaller than I originally conceived in the end):

In the midst of sorting out electrics, water, waste etc. I find it a big hassle employing others to do stuff hence why I like doing it myself!

I think you may possibly have made a small mistake on the building regs, its says the outside envelope not walls which i think includes fire protection on the eaves and fascia as well, if the fence was set alight next door or kids in the alleyway it would quickly get into the eaves fascia and roof, and do you need fire rated plasterboard inside? The fascia website says nothing about fire rating or EN13501-1. One bonfire night a friend melted the plastic gutter on an asbestos garage on the boundary and was lucky he didn't set the trusses on fire if it was wood not steel.

in fact my fence was on fire. Luckily the fire brigade was called fast by the neighbours.
