Loft light; confusion with wiring style

If I may explain further my reasons for installing a dimmer switch in my loft
You could try, but I don't think that Risteard was much into reason when he called you an imbecile for doing it, nor Winston when he called you stupid.

You'll see from the photos that there are water tanks just below where the bulbs hang.

Then move the lamp(s) so there is no "gleam" from the surface of the water while you are working on the tanks. ( or move the tanks away from the lamp(s) ).

I could do that OR alternatively, I could leave the lamps and the water tanks where they are and use the light dimmer to reduce light level as required.
