Foundation for Garage

Hi

I am preparing to have a garage built and figured on using ready-mixed concrete or foundation blocks for the foundation. But I just read on this site that, 'foundation blocks are quicker but cost more for materials'.

I thought that ready-mix concrete would cost more.

Are there any blocks which do not require rendering ?. Two walls will be too close to boundary, so would be quicker than using bricks.

Best advice please.

You put the foundation blocks on the concrete, so both are needed. Concrete blocks don't need rendering, but if they are seen they need to be laid neatly and jointed..

You used to be able to get 'paint finish' blocks. They were smoother finish than normal blocks.

Sorry. An error on my part.

I meant that I would use the same blocks, hollow/dense, for the walls, and fill with concrete, stronger walls. Two of the sides will be two close to the boundaries for rendering. So it's either bricks, take longer (I pay brickie), or if available, blocks which do not need rendering.

Any block can be left exposed. And you can also buy some which look nicer and smoother for this purpose.
