Shower Trays

Hi all, first post here.

I am doing my bathroom and have been looking at shower trays. I was going for the Mira Flight but the waste position on all of them is not suitable for my requirments.

I have found another make called MX who offer two ranges, Elements and Ducostone though I do not know how they differ. Does anyone know?

Can anyone recommend a quality make please as I can't seem to find the answer on the internet. I don't mind spending the extra on quality though I was suprised how low in price the Mira and MX rangers are around £100 - £150 for quality products.

Oh yes I've seen Kudos but with so many on the market it's hard to know. With so many stories of showers leaking want to buy a decent one. Thanks

In my experience leaks in showers are seldom the result of a quality issue with the tray. Most are down to poor installation , failure of grout or silicone sealant. In fact I have never come across a tray that leaks ,although someone else may have.

As above, 99% of leaks are installation issues, not issues with trays

Doubt the actual shower tray will be defective and leak,they are robust items that even survive the delivery/courier systems (unless herpes deliver them)
The tray and enclosure need special consideration when it comes to silicone time

I would suggest you look at a tray with integrated tiling upstands, as they remove the most common leakage point. A nice tray from Just Trays, in combination with Multipanel boards and Dow Corning 785 sealant, is a good starting point. You could also stick some small uPVC quadrant over the joints, if you want to tidy them up a bit.

Great thanks for the replies, another question if you would all be so kind

My shower enclosure is all stud and I intended to cover this with no more ply. However all the nmp I bought is 6mm which I now realise isn't thick enough. My intention now is to double up making two layers equalling 12mm.

Of course I will glue and screw as per manufacturer requirements. So my question is do you think this will be okay. I can by doing it this way also fix the tray with one layer, silicon the the second layer can over hang the upstands.

Another thought does anyone put vapour barriers up these days before boarding up?
