Hi,

Our north facing lounge has always been the coolest room in the house and perfect for these hot days.

However earlier in the week we had the old wall mounted gas fire taken out and an new electric one fitted.

One reason for replacement is that the concrete flue built in the wall is now illegal for any new gas fire, plus it was in the wrong place so the electric one allows us to fit it in a different position.

The old flue was boarded up, however now the room is the hottest in the house, it would seem the flue was acting as a very strong ventilator, though we were not aware of any big drafts etc.

Should we have installed a vent in the cover over the flue, though it might look a bit odd on the lounge wall ..?

Its this kind of vent, but with the even earlier narrower type of ridge tile vent ( Marley) and has not been capped, does this type need to be as there is no direct downward route like a typical pot?

Just vent it, the design practically excludes rain and any that enters will dry out if vented.(y)
I had one in a loft that was open (flue removed) and put a crate under it "just in case" never caught a drop.
