Recent power cut has told me I need to replace the back-up battery.
The original manual says "12volt 2.1 Amp". Size must be important I would think.
Any advice on where to buy, any snags to fit, etc. most appreciated.

if you need a battery then screwfix and tool station sell them, tool station do Yucel batteries and screwfix I am not sure what brand they do.
Just tend to find normal alarm distributors aren't open out side certain hours and especially weekends. alarm distributors probably cheapest, the others probably easiest to get to out side your normal working hours.

Many panels will have a maximum physical size that will fit in the unit and some will have a maximum charge capability. For example 7Ah on an Texecom Elite plastic is the max size, on a metal variant you can fit a 17Ah battery but you have to up the charging current.

I got a new back up battery for my wired house system from Ebay a couple of years ago. Brand new free delivery for less than a tenner. Surprisingly easy to fit. There were a couple of videos on You Tube. I couldn't source the exact same manufacturer but got hold of a battery of same dimensions, same terminal locations, same voltage and amps. For saying I'd paid an alarm guy a hundred quid in the 1990's to replace a back up battery on a previous house I was happy at my latest purchase.

I've just had a look at it. Yuasa. Good Japanese make. I used to use Yuasa batteries in my motorbiking days in the 80's.

Mine is 12 volt 2.1 Ah also. Going for £11.80 with free delivery on Ebay at the moment. Different sizes on offer.

Thanks, have found the (cascade) operating instructions for the model, no indication of the size, will have to take the front off before ordering.

Thanks sm, I meant the space the battery needs in the unit.

Alarm batteries are a standard size BUT the capacity can be different on some brands ...A 2.1ah is the norm ....unless some muppet has run the cables into the panel the wrong way and had to fit a 1.2ah battery because they
Couldn't get a 2.1ah to fit ....

Thanks again, the spec says 12v. 2.1amp. Sounds a bit risky though to order without measuring ??

I would definitely measure the dimensions of your existing battery and note the locations of the terminals on the battery before ordering a new one. I also took a photo of my old battery in-situ on my phone then used this for reference when looking for one on Ebay. Search 'burglar alarm back up battery'.

Take the plastic/ metal panel off the alarm unit. Shouldn't be more than a couple of screws. Gently slide the existing battery out. Disconnect the positive and negative terminals. You don't need to turn the mains electric off or owt like that.

Fitting the new battery just reconnect the terminals and slide battery back into place. I was a bit of a puff when I was doing mine and was convinced I was going to get an electric shock. I wore rubber gloves just in case. No need.

I'd never attempted a job like this before. Believe me it's easy.

Thanks sf, battery now out! Dimensions noted, it would seem to be same as Toolstation ref: 58363. This is just listed as "sealed lead acid battery" (no mention of "rechargeable" but am assuming it's the one for the job ?)

It's basically the same as a 12v car battery but a lot smaller. Yes it's rechargeable.

That is so very common on poly panels, there is a company in my neighbourhood that puts the sound bombs inside the poly panels and they can take up some space. Along with great big choc block for global tampers and a birds nest.

OK. have purchased via eBay the exact battery I'm replacing at under £12 del.
"NP2.1-12 12V 2.1Ah"
Hope this is of use to any future replacers.
Thanks to all posters.
