Power outlet for wall mounted speaker

Hi All,

I want to wall mount some powered Sonos speakers up near the ceiling but want to avoid the ugliness of having to install a 13A switched socket next to each speaker (we're renovating the entire room so have flexibility in what we install)

Is it an option/sensible to simply cut the plug off the supplied power cord and wire it in to something like a switched fused spur plate?

Thoughts or other options would be most welcome!

Yes, it's an option, provided the plug is just that - not a power supply or similar.

Thanks for the quick reply. It is just a plug, no external PSU to deal with. Any other options for supplying power in these sorts of locations that keeps things tidy?

As you are putting up more than one speaker, I would go for having an FCU somewhere practical feeding all of them, then just a flex outlet plate up near each speaker. These can have a totally plain front and be painted over if you really wanted to...

...which would be a stupid to do with anything which had a fuse holder or switch on the front of course!!

Do you need a fuse?

That there has to be one in a plug doesn't mean it is necessary if you connect to the lighting circuit with just a flex outlet plate.

could use architrave box and blank hidden behind the speaker if fed from a centrally located switch spur?

Thanks for all of the suggestions, this really helps. Hadn't realised that you could run everything from a central FCU, I think that will help keep things really quite tidy indeed. Thanks all for the great advice - this will keep my good lady happy
