Hi

Would appreciate some help please

I have just bought a 2005 static caravan which has a Worcester 24i (RSI) with a timer in the fascia panel and a ESRTERFW wireless digital room thermostat. I'd like to install a simple remote control so I can contact to turn the heating on when we are on our way from home or an especially cold spell is forecast. I'm not looking for an all-singing, all-dancing system such as NEST (I use that for my home system and love it) but something as low cost as possible that will simply turn it on.

Any advice please?

Many thanks

Steve

As already mentioned you will need an internet connection if you want to use a smart phone to operate the heating

The ESRTERFW is just a room thermostat, so it doesn't provide any on/off time control. therefore, you could leave it in place at a set temperature and wire in a 'Smart Remote Control Wireless Switch' simply to turn the heating 'on' and 'off'. There are plenty around and some cost less than £10, although with electronics you usually get what you pay for in terms of quality. With some, you may need an enclosure to mount it in as the wiring terminals are not covered. Of course this option won't allow you to adjust the room temperature remotely.

Alternatively, Esi also make a Programmable Thermostat that is WiFi enabled. They cost about £100 and it may be a straight swap for the ESRTERFW receiver. I've never used or installed one so I can't be certain. If you were thinking of going this route Esi should be able to confirm.

For about £25 you can buy a GSM switch and install a pay-as-you-go SIM card, which will switch on and off in response to a text message, and some will respond (toggling on and off) to successive phone calls. Not the same sophistication as the intenet connected devices, but may serve your purpose.

In another application, a friend has an internet connected thermostat (NEST)connected to his static caravan heating system. Unfortunately the internet router sometimes drops out, and he has to visit the caravan to reset it. A GSM switch on the mains power to his router enables him to reset it with just a couple of (free) telephone calls to said switch.

Thanks gents. Do you have an example link for the devices please so I can explore further?

Really appreciated
