Wow, you can that just from a question about a washer?Needs a new float valve, go for a brass shank. Just check which one will fit.

Really! I can think of 2 ways of securing the flexi without replacing the whole valve.If that plastic valve tail has been cross threaded then a new valve is on the cards.
JP , if you think our friend grandadt has a better chance of working with what he has then give him your suggestions ,bear in mind he is working in a limited space on a concealed cistern . That's right, makes it look like a bodge from the start. There is (or should be) a flat rubber washer, and if the water's getting past that taping the threads doesn't help, there are other leakage paths.It's been ptfe'd to feck
