Hi, I am looking at tiling my bathroom and toilet 22 m2.
The tiles are porcelain 30 mm x 600 mm x 10, can any body tell me how much adhesive I will need to fit these tiles to aqua board.
Would it be better to mix my own or buy ready made?

Thank You

BAL White Star Plus 10ltr

i used this and it was ok even fixing tiles over tiles...

if you pop the lid on each time you have a break it will keep...and its ready mixed...but in that respect mine was a small job..about 8m^2 which suited..there was loads left over
but...the pro's always mix and so keep their powder dry!!..:)
and dont have so much waste..
cheers

For what its worth, my guy recommended me to get bagged Dunlop Grey Floor and Wall Tile adhesive.

HELL NO!

I sell White Star Plus for the company I work for. It is NOT suitable. It cannot be used to fix porcelain over 15x15 or ceramics over 30x30 and I have no clue how you managed to get 8m2 out of one tub. From experience and testing by manufacturer, you can't get much more than 5.5 - 6m2.

Dunlop is made by BAL but uses slightly lower quality materials in manufacture BUT it is a good & cheap alternative. Your guy is bang on.

For what it's worth, you will have to use powder as 30x60 porcelain cannot be fitted by ready mix/dispertion adhesive.

you got me there old chap...i guess my area was a bit ott
it doesnt matter though....i managed to tile the area in question with less than the tub which i think must have been a larger one...
it seemed to be suitable for tiling over the plywood which i fixed over the old plasterboard wall under the removed bath area...i did seal the ply with 2 coats sealer and screwed it to the battens and at other points
regarding the tiling over tiles....as you say it wasnt too successful in the early stages and the tiles kept slipping down so i had to support them as the adhesive set...:( these particular tiles arent in a wet area just behind the sink and wc
very amateur indeed...but finally all were fixed and still in place after a year...250X200 ceramics from b&q
thanks for your help and advice
cheers

Honestly mate, your lucky the adhesive set but at the end of the day, it's set :) . Could it of possibly been the 15L BAL Grip tub? Grip was a 7.5m2 tub. That stuff was essentially bulletproof.

brs by mrcrow_uk, on Flickr....

you can see where the bath was...i continued the little ceramic filler all the way round....there were no tiles below the bath level...i left in the hot and cold feeds and capped them so a bath could be reinstalled...after taking out the 900mm quadrant shower unit...the sink and wc is in the original positions
the stop cock in the wc corner was jammed so everything was controlled from the street mains cock....on and off and on and off...:(
there were 5 sizes of pipe in the old set up...so i ended doing most socket weld

not sure about the bal type..it could have been the bomb proof stuff...:)
...i realise i was not listening to you chaps properly when i got the info on the floors/plumbing/tiling last year and didnt want to knock tiles off...they are behind the sink and toilet
if they had of fallen off i had a tube of grab adhesive which i had to use for little bits and pieces
i did my time as an engineer in the shipyards so everything i do is inch x thick...:D
and sometimes i think i know best but i dont
its a suspended ceiling this week... here's hoping i ordered the right stuff
cheers

Hi all I have ordered the adhesive powder to mix myself.
I cant wait to get started but the bath that was sent to me is the wrong size
I have been waiting for a replacement for over a week now and I feel there just messing me around.
A 10mm trowel will be used for applying the adhesive and a 12.5mm bead for around the window.
I thought 10 mm bead would be ok for a 8mm tile, but there didnt seem enough room for the adhesive which would bring the tile above bead so 12.5 mm it will have to be.

Thanks to all replies, much appreciated.

Kind Regards to all
