Also, I found out that the builders didnt use lime plaster (although they specified in their estimate they were going to use lime plaster). Is lime plaster more expensive than gypsum and should I ask for a reduction/reimbursement?
If you have a written contract you are entitled to request that the work be done according to the specification.
An estimate however is not a quotation so I am not sure how this stands. If it was done on a verbal basis then you are in a difficult spot and will have to rely on the goodwill of the builder.
I'm sure there will be many good builders who have experience of older buildings in your area.
Thanks. I feel I need a damp specialist to take a look - one that isnt going to recommend a solution because he financially benefits from it. What would I google for?
We had a damp specialist come out and he confirmed this is rising damp. He recommended we use the Newton Lathe 805 system.
Can the Newton Lathe 805 go straight onto the gypsum plaster or should the plaster be hacked off? Can we put gypsum plaster over the Newton Lathe or does that defeat the object of it letting the damp evaporate? Im confused how the Newton Lathe 'breathes', or does it lock in the damp?
