Will soon be at roof level on my self build extension and plan to use three rooflights.

Obviously the most well know brand is Velux, but there are many others on the market, and some are a lot cheaper. Will I be in for a lot of hassle if i go for a cheaper brand?

I've been looking at Sunlux and Optilight, anyone got any knowledge of these?

Also, I've noticed that most rooflights seem to be timber, but Sunlux do a UPVC model, which seems like it would be better from a maintenance perspective.

What are your thoughts?

Timber rooflights tend to be covered with aluminium externally and require no maintenance.

Try Fakro or RoofLITE

Keylite are as easy to fit as Velux but come with a slightly higher spec' for your money. I especially like the pull-cord expanding collars.

I can trump that. Frakro units come with an exceptionally long free pencil.

Hi Ronny
I have three skylights in an extension I built 5yrs ago.
I used Velux triple glazed polyurathane which where expensive at the time compared to a lot of alternatives but when it snows it doesn't melt for a long time, and after a couple of years you will have no regrets about buying cheap.

Well, found a very good deal on three Dakea units, and have gone for them. Apparently made by the same company that manufactures Velux and come with a long guarantee so fingers crossed they will be OK.
Budget is my main concern, am still under budget and aim to remain so.

Will upload pics etc to "Your Projects" once finished - bit backwards I know but haven't got time at the moment to give constant progress updates, so you will probably see what I've been up to in around another year!
