downlights installation on landing help!

have installed, (well nearly) 3 downlighters on landing to replace orginal old single rose ( 2 red, 1 black, 1switch black and two earths). The three lights are on a loop via its own transformer. This is the nearly bit! light switches work ok (upstairs and down) but only one light out of the three turns on and off (this light is the first one in the sequence). Have checked all the light bulbs they are working ok.

Any ideas?

Can you confirm that you have one switched live (not black!!!) and that each light fitting has its own transformer

Check your connections at the first and second light fitting.

Thanks for response.

Three downlighters on a loom, one transformer. Switch cabel is black (with small red indicator band on it). The light that is working is the first in the sequence. Connections to other lights seem ok and bulbs have been checked.

Initially I'd disconnect the cables at the fist light (I assume you have one cable incoming and one outgoing there) and reconnect them making sure you aren't tightening onto the cable insulation instead of the conductor.

Do the same thing at the second light if this still doesn't cure it.

If there's still a prob, then confirm the voltage is present at the second light using a meter between the live and neutral (to confirm both L and N are present)

If the supply isn't present then the prob is with the connections at the first light or the cable is broken.

If the supply is present then there must be a prob with the connection at the second light fitting or with the light fitting itself.

Prof says there's one tranny so the feeds to susequent fittings must be SELV (12V ac) but can still check with a MultiMeter whether this voltage is getting thro'.

How are the fittings connected to the tranny?

As above only you're looking for the voltage on the multimeter which the transformer supplies.

Thanks to eveyone for their input. Took your advicce and checked all connections in turn. Male baynet on loom to light fitting was dodgy on lights 2 and 3. Re-aligned them by about 1-2 mm, problem solved, all three are now working.
