Our house was built in 1960/61. We had the carpets up when we moved in in 1990 and found the floor lined with old newspapers of the time. One of them had the headlines and pictures of Prince Phillip who had just shot his first tiger on a trip to India. A goat had been staked out as bait. I think it was this trip https://www.express.co.uk/news/roya...-tiger-50-years-before-Cecil-lion-controversy
Ironically, also in 1961, Prince Phillip was patron of the World Wildlife Fund. Awks!
Whenever I have any floors up, I always place newspapers under the floor for others to enjoy in years to come.

I thought it strange that he moved a pipe given that the unions had a lot more power then, he didn't do much of a job on the joist either as the floor still has a slight rise in it.

Building wasn't very Unionised then;) I found graffitti - AB x CD for example ( this was before smart phone cameras, so I couldn't photo it ) It was carved in a beam of an 18th century stable block way up in the roof. I often wondered if AB the carpenter married CD. At another place I found a piece of wood nailed up in the roof with the date 1933 and the guys who re roofed the building. One of them was my Gran's brother in law. I found £200 in old notes under a bath panel, took them to the bank and they changed them(y) When we moved out of our council house ( I was a lad then) I left a copy of Parade ( soft pron ) under the floorboards. NO it wasn't stuck together

Finding 200 sovs was a nice touch as all i have found monetary wise was fourpence hapenny in the garden, from what i recall it was the airbrushed pictures in Health and Efficency for us as kids.

We had some H+E too;) and a couple of Harrison Marks. Lovely curvy models. But I was surprised when I found that boobs like that were floppy in real life:unsure: Then there was the Georgian penny I found in an old village house, not worth anything but I wondered what it would have been worth when someone dropped it ( in today's £ ) As to the £200 it was in a M8's house so I gave it to him after getting it changed @ bank. Biggest shock was my old Dad who came to live with us after being widowed, and loosing most of his sight. He says, "can you check my wallet, boy ? " £1k in those same old obsolete notes !! Soon got them up the bank and in an account for him.
