I had Avocet cylinders for the front and back doors. We've since replaced a lot of downstairs doors with modern ones (UPVC or aluminium); all with euro cylinders. That means six sets of keys.

I remember reading how the Avocet keys could be easily bypassed or overridden. There are companies that do keyed alike but are any particularly reliable ones?

Not heard of avocet keys being easy to "bypass or override" but I don't know what you mean when you say that.

When I bought an avocet cylinder, it worked for a bit and then stopped. I googled here and there to find an answer and came across info on avocet keys failing (the magnetism in the keys stopped working), that the cylinders were old design and newer cylinders were more resistant to being broken, and that lockpicking tools for avocet cylinders were available.

(As it turned out, my multipoint lock system had failed rather than the cylinder).

In reality Avocet ABS anit pick locks are probably as secure as any 3* lock. Yes there are anti pick tools available (theres a youtube vid from memory) but that means paying out £100 for a tool that only works on Avocet locks and still takes time.

The key for security is to aim for enough deterrent to stop most burglaries. Beyond that a determined burglar will find another easier route -brick through window....

I'll have another look at avocet. I liked the cylinders we had and it made it easier to know which key opened the front and back door.

Ultron are probably the best on the market at the moment. £1000 guarantee against being defeated
