Hello,

I have just dug the foundations out for my new conservatory. The builder said to dig them 500mm deep. I have researched on line and I get a huge variance in depth stated, ranging from 600mm - 1500mm.

This is an experienced builder who does good work and has a good reputation so if he says 500mm is sufficient then I expect it is but i just wanted to ask peoples views on here?

Many thanks.

ps.. I think this is in the wrong section so I will start it again in the correct on.

I have seen (on tv) where house extensions have been on a float of approx 150mm, your conservatory is going to be considerably less weight so 500mm should surely be adequate?

Really depends on what your subsoil is and any local subsidence issues. Having said that your builder will know local conditions and will specify depth based on his experience / knowledge, so I wouldn't worry or question it.
