Heat going off too soon - please help!

Hi all, I spent the past few days trawling these forums to find the answer with no luck so hoping someone can help.

Just got a new gas combi system, so all new boiler, rads, pipes etc.

The thermostat and an 'always on' radiator are in the hall. This rad is reaching the stat temp so quickly that the heating goes off while the other rooms are only just starting to warm up.

Is there anything we can do to correct this ourselves? Thank you.

I am not a professional heating engineer, but when we had the same problem I closed both of the hall valves completely & then just cracked them open to allow the water to flow. A heating engineer who visited later recognised what I had done & did not say I had done the wrong thing or suggest another cure. Whether this will help you or not I am not sure, but I would guess better qualified engineers will help later.

Call your installer back to sort it - the stat should be in a suitable location and he should have balanced your system as part of the installation

1 Turn up the tenp. on the thermostat.
2 Turn down the flow on the hall radiator.
3 Get the installers back to explain the system.

The thermostat is located in the wrong place, or the hall radiator is too large. This is a system design mistake by the installer, so they should rectify it.

There are basic room thermostat location requirements:

It should be in a place that is the last to warm up, so that the radiators remain 'on' in all of the other rooms first to allow them to heat up before the main thermostat turns the whole system off.

Not in a room where it will be subject to other heat sources such as cooking appliances, fireplaces & sunlight etc.

It should be located in an open space to allow air to circulate freely around it so that it senses the true ambient temperature of the room in which it is located, not stuck in a corner, behind curtains or furniture, or subject to drafts

Thank you all for the responses and advice.

stem, the thermostat isn't in the coldest room (which would be the entrance hall downstairs), and it is certainly possible the rad is too big for the space.

The installers are coming back tomorrow to 'calibrate' it as he put it, hopefully they'll sort it.
