Lawn In Bad Shape - Moving Out Rented House - How Can I Fix?

Unfortunately 1 month isnt long enough to improve a lawn and esp not October as grass growth slows down.

I would, mow the lawn weekly, cutting only down to 50mm.

You could cut out the worst of the thistle type weeds -dont take out many, you will just create bare patches.

If it stays warm, a fast growing lawn seed might help a bit, but a month is too short to establish.

Some autumn lawn feed may help, but its late really, Sept is the time.

You could water in ferrous sulphate, just a weak mix used for feed, not moss killer

I have bought some autumn lawn fertiliser from Aldi and got it delivered, none of the local diy had any. It says it has moss control too so i guess i cannot use it. should i just not feed it at all guys??

Maybe too late to this particular party, but don't go too overboard with the lawn-feed/moss killer (if that's what it is you've bought) - in the short time you have before departure, all a ferrous-based tonic will do is turn any moss black - which will look worse on your landlord's inspection (despite being good in the long run for the lawn!).
A longshot, but if there was a hose-pipe ban in effect during the summer it would help your defence?

Because of the long hot summer everyones garden suffered, it would be a bit crass if the landlord complained about that . a couple of weeks of rain and everything will be back to normal

Thanks for your reply. Yes your right it does look like i have bought the lawn feed with moss killer. I wont put it down as i dont want to make the moss black and make it look a lot worse. Unfortunately there was ban but great suggestion anyway. ;)

Yes he is a nob that's putting it mildly, but hey ho after a little bit of turf and the endging done, a cut at the longest height it does look a lot better.

If its this one:

https://www.aldi.co.uk/gardenline-autumn-lawn-fertiliser/p/062052215880700

It says moss control not killer -maybe that is just marketing, ie fertilise grass, less moss.

If it contains iron suphate then it will kill moss.

Apply some to a small area of moss and if its a granular one, water in. If its got iron sulphate in it, you will see it go black by the following day.

I might have to get some of that. Lawn is full of yarrow at the moment. Need to pull that out, and once that's out, not sure how much grass left though ...

Might just cut it.

So, when do you find out if you get your deposit?

After i move out which is the 10th November. So no doubt i will have to wait for it if there is any disputes like the grass for example. I sent him pictures by email and he said he could see there was an improvement but he is still expecting me to treat for the weeds. So i have asked him what exactly he wants done and ill do it before i leave.
