My 9 year old Baumatic BR 16.3A isn't cooling as well as it used to. Any tips please on rectifying this ? The dial is set to 5 (maximum cooling) but the fridge is often hovering around 6 or 7 when it used to be at about 3 or 4.

It's perhaps not worth spending money on an engineer as I guess it's reaching the end of its life and something else will fail in due time?

What other makes of fridges are particularly good these days?

I guess you could check the back of the fridge for dust or whatever on the cooling coils but if it isnt that it could be low on refridgerant gas.
Can you hear the thermostat clicking?
Bosch is the choice of appliance for me.
John :)

I'll check the cooling coil, thanks. The thermostat is definitely clicking in and it IS cooling (easy to tell as the temp drops and the moisture on the internal back panel freezes), it's just that, despite being at the maximum cooling setting, it's not getting as low as it used to.

Thanks for the Bosch recommendation.

We had a similar problem with our 20 year old Hotpoint fridge. The thermistor had become dodgy and was reading the wrong temperature. I fitted a new universal thermostat, took about 15 minutes and cost about £15 (excluding my labour).

I last replaced the thermostat bout 10 years ago. On that occasion the compressor wouldn't even kick in.
