Looks like the previous owners have moved their gas hob to where it resides now (central island)

The capped pipe in the picture was discovered when I move some kitchen cabinets yesterday, ready for the wall you can also see is removed.

I'm assuming as its capped there's still gas in the pipe. Is this correct? Also, is there any significance to the yellow tape wrapped around the pipe?

1. Likely to be live as capped, but you must assume it is live.
2. Yellow is the colour which indicates gas. Could also be wrapping to preserve from copper rot in concrete.
3. If you intend to remove it it must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Thanks oldbuffer.

There's a rad on the other side of the wall which needs moving first anyway so an extra task for the plumber. I'll let the builders know so whoever they sub out for the plumbing job will be properly qualified and aware.

Here's another pic where you can see the island top left with the hob. The gas feed would enter from far left. So I'm hoping during the last kitchen renovation whoever done it would have run new pipe to the island from the left rather than come back off the original feed.

I'm not sure on how plumbers work, but would be interested in your thoughts as to whether what you guys would have done in this situation. Thanks.

In my kitchen, house built mid 50's, there are two gas outlets, one on each side of the kitchen
Presumably to give an option of placement, or a gas fridge
