I’m shortly going to be installing external upvc shiplap cladding to the outside of my house in place of some concrete brick effect cladding which I’ve just removed.
I’ve placed 70mm celotex between existing 3x2 timbers and have covered with external 18mm ply. I’ve then covered that with a weatherproof felt.

Can I install cladding directly to the felt covered ply or should battons be installed first and the cladding fixed yo those? I’m hoping not as that will cause the cladding to protrude a little more than I would like.

Thanks for any help or advice.

On our dormer they used Dirasid from Eurocell and put it on without battens. I questioned them about the lack of battens and they said that one can go directly into the ply/membrane.

One of the longer lengths has since bowed out slightly and I wonder if battens would have prevented that.

Just out of interest, why have you gone with a grey door and white windows?

Just personal preference. The cladding will be anthracite and door anthracite. The white just breaks it up a little.
