BANNED TV ADVERT

Iceland wanted to use this in their Christmas campaign but it has been banned.
No, it hasn't.

Clearcast, the body responsible for vetting ads before they are broadcast to the public, said it was in breach of rules banning political advertising laid down by the 2003 Communications Act.
Maybe they did, but they have no statutory/public law power. The fact that any advertiser, or broadcaster, seeks their advice on whether an advertisement breaks any rules does not give them any powers to ban any advertisement.

They are clearly a shameful bunch of idiots who have allowed themselves to be captured by commercial concerns with a vested interest in portraying campaigning on environmental issues as "political", but Iceland did not have to ask their opinion, nor did any broadcaster, and even having asked it they were free to ignore it.

Either way, the 'ban, or 'non ban' has created massive publicity for iceland.

I cant say Iceland would have struck me as a typical ethical food retailer

Good on them for being brave and doing a different approach to their Christmas ad.

Thats got to be better than using Kerry Katona

All the Big Stores have spent a fortune on their Standard Christmas Adverts, Iceland have taken a different route and appear to be the most talked about Christmas Advert this year , a clever marketing strategy

I see the John Lewis ad is out today.....an Elton John job. Cost £7m

Blimey - what on earth was so unacceptable about the store vs country dispute, and the mentioning of KFC?
