Wiring a BT Socket

I had a plasterer come in and he disconnected my BT socket.

Now I have to put it back together.

I have a new wall box and there are 4 wires coming out of the wall.

See the picture below...

The wires are a bit dirty coz they have bits of plaster on it.

1. Do I need to strip the ends of the wires first?
2. Can I use some normal tool or can I improvise pushing the wires into the connectors since I don't have a Krone/IDC tool?
3. Any other considerations?

1. No. Insulation Displacement Contact
2. Can be done but is a bit fiddly and runs the risk of spreading the contact making it unusable.
3. A punch down tool is available from Toolstation. Item No. 83108 for £1.50. Suitable for occasional use.

You do not need to strip the insulation the insertion punch and the connector do it.

Thanks, if I don't use a tool (coz I don't go out much), and I manage to push it down, do I need to ensure that the wire splits in between the connectors so it makes contact with the copper inside?

They chucked it out. I found another one in my boxes but its the old style.

Where does that 4 core cable come from? Because it is not the right colours for a BT incoming cable.

Yes but where does it come from? If it is the incoming line it must be joined somewhere as those are not the correct colours. Without this information it is impossible to know which wire goes where.
 
Its the main line coming in.


From other videos, I think these colours are an alternative to the standard. They twist up further in the sleeve.
I think the black and green twist together and the red/white twist together.
