Low pressure shower head - need pump advice please

Thanks for all the replies guys really helpful!

The bit I am struggling with is the need to pump both hot and cold. The hot pressure is low no doubt about that so need to pump that. However the cold pressure in the shower and the taps is much higher than the hot. So not sure if that needs pumping?

Both must be pumped, which ensures they are both at the same pressure.

Using the cold mains and a pumped hot supply will cause problems, as there will be no way to ensure they are both the same pressure all the time.

Correct. You will need a twin impeller pump to pump both hot and cold to a mixer shower. Don't go too mad with the pump though, there's a risk you will run out of hot or cold water before you finish your shower. Running dry on either of these will knacker the pump and give a shock unless your mixer is thermostatic :). Some pump manufacturers recommend a minimum of 50 gallons of cold water storage.
