Dimplex Opti-Myst fires

If your fire is generating mist but it's not coming out through the vents above the bulbs, the fan has probably failed. Replacement from Dimplex or other spares providers is a ridiculous £40 plus. On eBay you can buy the same basic fan - look for a 24V 60 x 60 x 28 blower - for less than £6. You can also get a 12 V version even cheaper which works fine if you add a series resistor (I used 270 ohms 2W wirewound). You also need to cut the connecting wire off the old faulty fan and join it to the new fan. You must observe polarity & insulate the connections safely. The joints should be soldered too and , off course, the power should be off during this work.

Hi All
I have a Danville Optimyst the Transducer does not generate Smoke the Lights turn off after about 30 seconds and the Fan does not run .
I Removed the Disc and cleaned still no Smoke, Tested the Output from the PCB about 12vAC with Lights off Nothing with Lights on (Either AC or DC). There is no power to the Fan (24DC) tested Fan on a 24v PSU Runs OK. Tested Transducer on 24v DC Nothing.
Assumed PCB and Transducer were Faulty. Bought new from Dimplex fitted but still the same.
I have tested the Rotary Pot which seems to vary the Smoke, seems OK .3 Ohms up to 10K
The 24v DC PSU below the Control PCB seems OK 24v DC Output and Led on.
Any Ideas??

Hi AlistairE
Do you still repair the old blue tank - grey sump models?
If so, could you give me an idea of price etc or a link that I can be directed to?

Many thanks

Hi there,

I've had my Dimplex Auberry opti-myst stove for nearly 4 years now (only running during the winter months) and, as stated in the manual, have always cleaned it every fortnight and completely emptied it when not using for a long period. I put it on for the first time today in over 10 months and, whilst the heating element and lights are working fine, it's no longer producing any flames? I've checked all the different components (sump, transducer, connector, plug) several times but nothing helps...any suggestions what to do next? I've read the previous posts but most talk about the whole unit switching off after so many seconds - possibly suggesting it is the transducer? I'm not sure this is the problem with my stove..please help.

Can anyone help with this problem, please? I have read through all the posts above and can't see anything similar.I'm new to this sort of thing, and may be on the wrong thread - do tell me if so.
We have an Opti-myst Sacramento (orange tank), just more than 3 years old, which has worked fine until recently, when it has started to behave oddly.
When turned on, the lights flash on for a moment, everything else seems to work - i.e. the heating and misting - but the light flashes on periodically, gradually getting more frequent and staying on a bit longer, until it eventually comes on permanently. This takes something like 20 minutes. The fire then works normally. This behaviour is predictable, not random, and happens every time the fire is turned on, unless it is turned off and on again after a short time.
I have checked that everything is clean - we live in a soft water area and have no problems with scale; I haven't yet checked anything with a meter, but can't see anything obvious by eye. I am not an electrician, but am capable of repairing straightforward pieces of equipment.

Got the older blue tank type fire. It now all lights up, heating work and the heating fan but the fire is no longer producing mist and cuts out after about 20 seconds. Read on here it could be the power supply, faulty board or mist producing thingys gone wrong.
How do I check the power supply?
Can I get a replacement board, if so where from?
Which mist producing thingys will I need and where from?
All suggestions lead to maplins but they are no longer ☹️
Help please

Unplugged the sump and switched the fire on today. The heater and fan work, the logs glow, and she didn’t cut out! Soon as I plugged the sump back in it cut out. The lights don’t come on when the sump is unplugged and we get no smoke effect but at least we can get heat. This makes me believe the pcb in the sump maybe faulty.

Can any one please recommend a company that repairs the fires in willing to travel to get it fixed it’s had a new transducer so that’s not the fault any help is most appreciated Dimplex want £175 for a engineer visit

I had a problem with Dimples optic myst. The fire had been left for about 2 years and when I needed to use it, naturally it would not produce any smoke. I took out the transducer unscrewed the copper disc, cleaned it in white vinegar and wire wool, put it back together topped up the water tank again and after about 20 secs it was working perfectly. Do not purchase new transducers or discs - just clean up your your existing ones for free.

I've had the Piermont about 10 years (blue tank) and believe the transducer disc has given up the ghost (black and pitted) as I'm getting no mist, struggling to find a replacement, anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Hello.

I'm on here trying to see if anyone has had problems with too much smoke being produced by the Optimist Danville. It doesn't matter what setting ours is on as it makes no difference. I would of course contact Dimplex but the fire is a few years old now. Just wondered if anyone else suffered the problem and knows the fix? As the flames and smoke is effected by the fan, I am wondering if the small 24v fan should be variable speed and depending on the knob setting for the flame/smoke that controls the speed of the fan?

Whilst browsing this thread I've seen a lot of posts on here about the flames/smoke not working. This has happened twice on our fire and both times it was down to two separate faults which can be easily fixed.

Firstly the transducer can be faulty. Easily sourced and replaced.
Secondly the 24v bushless fan may be faulty. If it's not working or working at low speed you wouldn't get either flame or smoke.

I've now replaced both on our Danville after they failed and the flames work - it's the smoke problem I now have.

Just had a brand new Dimplex Oakhurst repaired by an engineer yesterday with the same fault - too much smoke that couldn't be altered (whole fire chamber was smoke logged). You are right the turn wheel to adjust the height of the flames is basically a potentiometer that controls the speed of the fan, ours wasn't working and stuck on full speed, engineer replaced the potentiometer and everything works fine now.

Dimplex fire not misting.
Maybe transducer problem. How much water should it spray. I videoed it but can’t upload that can I? Does this look right? Seems to have a scratch in the centre of the disc....
