The only advantage is that the electric shower is a secondary source of hot water incase the boiler fails. Personally I would only use it as a backup.

I agree the maths seems compelling! I had formed the idea that combis were pretty well universal these days and yet electric showers seem so common too. Hence my doubt. As for "backup", if my boiler fails I will defo be focussed on that and not worrying about taking showers!
