The church I go to has had BT WiFi installed. The church hall is used by many different groups and some of them asked for WiFi.
BT installed a router roughly in the middle of the building. The walls are typical church so thick and the WiFi signal hardly makes it through them. I need to install two or probably three extra devices that give the same WiFi signal, I can hard wire them and think this is the best way.
My question is what would I need to buy? I just can't do a google search for "a box thingy that extends WiFi"

"wifi extender" is exactly what you search for.

You may be better using extenders or access points that can use a ethernet wire from the router if the signal does not get through the walls.

I wouldn;t even bother with an extender, if it;s a church hall I can see multiple people accessing one AP. I would speak to them about a Mesh network, or stick the router in modem mode and get something like Google WiFi, Tenda Nova or something like that. 3 Network points for about £300 (Tenda is about half that). Simply plug them in where needed.

I use a cheap Lidi unit, it has many options on how to use it, I have it hard wired to Post Office router and it works well. The problem is the Post Office internet is slow and unreliable, but the Lidi extender works A1.

However the problem is when it comes it has a password which is printed in the manual, i.e. every Lidi extender has same password, so I changed to password mainly so no one could get into it and change password so I could not access my own unit. When moving house it was left unplugged for some time, and it reverted back to book password, not sure if this is good or bad?

However having a unit which plugs into LAN then offers wifi with poor security means some one can assess all your network.

Have you not prayed to Jesus for better wifi strength? Surely he will listen, have faith. Maybe make a donation to the vicar for him to pray for you, it all goes to a good cause.

As BT advertise they guarantee WiFi in every room I would get them out to fix and they can install whatever they need to which should solve the problem.

They just fit the discs that I suggested a few posts back and the op bought.

I saw that there have been a few more comments so I thought I'd give an update.
I moved the BT router out of the cupboard where it had been installed and fixed it to a wall in a corridor. The signal now reaches just about every part of the building.
That left me with a set of BT whole home mesh disks so I've used then at home and I now have good wifi signal in my summerhouse and most of the garden (I paid for them so no problem).
