Would this be an odd set up?

Hi
I want to get a new electric towel heater for the bathroom. Found a decent one, 300w, good reviews etc.

I want it plugged in on a timer, like a Hive smart plug. Obviously can't go around putting plug sockets in bathrooms, so my suggestion was to have the radiator run into a fused switched spur and from that into a timer in a plug socket. Is that nornor?

Also, it sounds like a very easy DIY job, fit radiator, wire into spur, wire out to a plug, plug in to timer.

The regs regarding bathroom zones apply to switched spurs as well as sockets and you can have a socket if your bathrooms big enough.

Not required if there is a plug supplying it - just use a flex outlet plate.

You can do what you want provided the socket is either outside the bathroom or more than 3m away from the bath.

Thanks, I'll pick up a flex outlet. It'll be approx 900mm from the edge of the shower bath, so outside of zone 2?

That's outside of the zones, but doesn't matter. A flex outlet could be in zone 2. Switches are not allowed in zone 2.

Hi, just resurrecting this thread as I forgot to ask, the cable from the flex outlet to the socket, will 1mm twin & earth be ok for that? Its a 300w towel radiator, wired into flex outlet, need a suitable cable from flex to socket which is approx 6m away.

In terms of current rating, then 1mm² will be plenty.
In terms of compliance with BS7671, the minimum size is 1.5mm² because 1mm² can be used for lighting circuits but not power circuits.
