Cooker hood ducting question

we are thinking about installing a cooker hood to help with condensation and cooking smells in our small galley kitchen.

Our cooker stands in front of a boxed section, which is 620mm wide that hides the mains-in water pipe, gas pipe and higher up the wall, the pipes in and out of the central heating boiler. Thus if I install a cooker hood in the conventional way, i’ve No space within the boxed section to make a hole in the external wall for the ducting vent.

Pondering the problem, I’m wondering if there would be anything wrong with having the vent lower down than the hood? I’m thinking that the hood would be about 2mtrs off the ground and having the vent 1mtr off the ground, which would then be in-line with the tumble drier vent that was already installed when we moved in, but no longer need as we have a condenser drier which we may end up putting in the conservatory anyway.

I've seen this done, and also some of the more modern induction hobs have an extractor inlet at pan level - i.e along side. There was no problem with the extraction but the pong was evident outside, if that is an issue.

Thanks for that, we don’t cook anything too stinky! So smell not really an issue, although I do go overboard with air freshener after cooking fish!

I wasn’t sure if the nanny-state had something to say about positioning of vents

On that score I'm afraid I can't advise but so long as it's not offending anyone.......
