It must be at least 15 years old and been reliable up to now. No gas is getting through so the burner is not starting. Plumber cleaned out small valve in hot water but said it is like something else to do with pilot. He also noted the fan is starting to grate. The crate seals are also starting to perish. Still waiting to hear back regarding cost/availability of parts. Is it really worth repairing it or getting a new boiler?

They was a good boiler worth repairing, recently the spares prices have shot up rendering a lot of repairs BER unfortunately

Well they haven't got back to me yet to tell me how much it would cost. Trouble I have recently struggled to find a decent plumber. We have an leaking cold water over flow pipe. The last person to service the boiler said he couldn't do it because he lent his tool to someone even though I told them he needs doing beforehand. The company before that who serviced the boiler should have fixed to! Cowboys!!!

Then look for a repairer or a heating engineer.
A plumber may not fit boilers
He may fit boilers but need not know how they work
A service guy or a heating engineer needs to know how boilers work so would be able to effect repairs

Well the company is meant to do repairs. They said it's not viable even though it just had a service. I guess they would rather flog me a new boiler rather than getting parts which there still seems to be plenty of. I think I will get one more person to look at it and then get a new one if someone else says the same
