Conservatory with downpipe into Water Butt

Hey all,

Long story short, our conservatory which is about 13 years old was seemingly built without a soakaway. The downpipe goes into a water butt but that is constantly overflowing (and it's a big one!). There is a small soakaway used for the boiler overflow but that's the other side of the house.

We have a new conservatory roof being fitted this week so have new guttering as well, so I'm wondering what the hell I do with the new downpipe? The area all around the conservatory is now decked so I can't rip that up and get a soakaway dug... Any ideas? I can't leave it as it is...

My set up was the same as yours. When I replaced the roof, building control said that the downpipe would either need to be connected to the existing house drainage, or a soakaway. I had to lift some Indian sandstone paving and dig around to the house. Can you remove the planks closest to the house and do what I did?

We have no way of knowing where the drain is as we are on the end or a cul-de-sac.

I'd rather not have to immigrate a mole and have lots of dig sites, but yeah that does look ideal.

Any other ideas...no matter off the wall? As things stand the new roof people are moving the guttering back in our waterbutt....I want to avoid this.

Can you not connect it to the nearest downpipe like me? Or is it really not feasible?

Other than that I think a soakaway is the only option?

Where does the current house guttering drain? Is conservatory near to kitchen?
Any pics ?

I'll take some pics tomorrow. The guttering I think attaches to a shared downpipe on next doors side...

I *think* I have a fix.....when the new guttering is done, I'll ask them to splice off into the downpipe on nextdoor a side. It's only like a foot over the boundary and won't bother anybody (I'll check with next door)...at least that way we know it's going to a drain that way. ..
