DeWalt DC725 cordless drill sparking - brushes?

Hi chaps, I just got a new battery for this drill / driver, as per

Now the drill is sparking like mad, not while running but when you let go the trigger and it stops then there's a clatter and big sparks.

Is it worth trying to replace the brushes do you think? I'm not sure cos with my experience with a lawn mower recently I sort of got drawn into "replace this, only £20", uh-oh, "replace that only a tenner" ... and so on till I had the sense to take it to the tip

I read somewhere - maybe on here - that putting the drill back together after replacing the brushes was a "nightmare"

and I don't need any nightmares right now.

Also any ideas for a new one?

Take the brushes out first and if there's plenty meat left there's a stronger chance the armature is knackered.

sounds like the electric brake so normal ?
if you put it in 1st gear and realese the trigger slowly what happens ??

Ah that's the slider on top with "1" and "2" on it right? Not sure I've ever used that!
Anyway, with it set to "1" if I rev it up then release slowly looks like nothing happens - no spark.

probably normal electric brake sparks if it only sparks with a sudden trigger release
so not nice but normal

big all, yeah, could be it's always done that and I've never noticed, e.g. a lot of the time I've used it outside so in sunlight out-of-doors it might not be (so) visible.

Yes, come to think of it, mine sparks when released suddenly too! More than coincidence, i think.

in general its a horrible noise a big "bang" not a good noise but the tools are designed with this built in i simply dont like this but this is my problem but in my head a metalic bang with sparks can cause excessive wear

sounds like normal drill behaviour. The electromagnetic charge produce sparks from brushes

If it's sparking enough to be questioned it's not normal.

its not in use its only when he releases the trigger and the electric brake kicks in
