Hi, after some advice relating to new floodlights I've recently bought.

One is a 150w and the other 50w both are LED type with metal casing on rear.

I wanted to test the light works ok before fitting so fitted a 13a plug to the cable attached to each light.

When I switch the plug socket both lights are tripping the mains in the house.

I've tried them on different sockets round the house and same thing happens.

Anyone give me any pointers am I being a numpty and missed something obvious ??

Cheers

What cable is attached to each light? Aren't they fully enclosed? Or are have you attached a cable to it?

It's the main board that trips as opposed to individual breakers so whole house goes off.

They both have a fixed cable approx half meter of 3 core cable.

Are you sure you wired the plug(s) correctly then? Sorry if that sounds obvious. Blue to Black and all that?

I suggest the next thing is to post a picture of the 13A plug wiring, and to post a link to the floodlights you bought.

Earth fault. Cheap Ebay jobs by any chance (more than likely with only 500mm of cable)? Also are you lighting up a tennis court with the 150w?

Yes double checked it's ok.

Amazon they are from, the 150w is lighting a big back garden.

They won't last long & possibly not electrically safe. IMO I suggest you send them back and buy something properly made. Ledvance would be a good choice.

150w (if it is actually 150w) will create a huge amount of glare unless it is mounted very high up & should be angled horizontal or only a few degrees from it. I would suggest a minimum height as being the top of a gable on a two strorey house.

I light a large garden with a good quality 50w & it provides more than enough light.

Both those items from Amazon look OK to me, so either a major fault with your house wiring or possibly some sort of numpty thinking, (or trolling by the resident sock-puppet) is going on. Pictures please.
