can immersion heater empty itself

Have gas heating, switch it on to heat immersion heater.(not combo)

Immersion heater was very hot so switched off and ran bath. turned off tap then
went downstairs for 2 min then heard bath draining.
Found plug had come out.
I think the immersion had also emptied as it had no heat at all on touch and that is unusual.
Tried again an hour later and all is ok
Can this be more than a loose plug?

A hot water tank cant empty AFAIK, if you keep running the hot, it will just get cold

Usually they fill from the bottom and empty from the top

I am assuming by immersion heater you mean hot water tank?

Im not sure what conbection the bath plug has......

yes hot water tank. Label on top says immersion heater,
I see , hot water taken from top so probly I only felt central of tank.
i'll clean the plug thanks

The immersion heater is the electric element -used as a back up heater in case your boiler fails, you are probably reading the end of the heater you can see on the outside of the tank, itll have a power cable going to it.

That's handy to know.
Would it heat the tank if my gas failed? or is it some sort of general backup to get the gas part to do it's job.

Yes ,the electric immersion heater would heat the water if your gas boiler failed.
